Job Description
TECHNICAL DESIGNER
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compile information on all garment components including fit, fabric, construction, and trim into fit comment document/spec sheet.
- Measure samples received from Proto stage to PP samples in a timely manner.
- Check construction and quality of product to ensure sample has proper construction for garment category and fabrication.
- Execute fit comments in a timely manner to ensure the fit process stays in line with production and action timelines.
- Create technical fit comments that are easily understandable comments using written and visual methods, advise construction details, and clearly communicate the status and direction of each style to suppliers
- Lead fit session on live model or mannequin and takes the initiative of specific product categories.
- Cross-examine sample against information in the Tech Pack and against the previous sample to ensure consistency and call out any discrepancies to the team.
- Document clear and precise notes for any changes to the garments during fit sessions.
- Update Tech Packs with the most current information for the BOM, construction notes, specs, after proceeding to production if necessary.
- Work closely with cross-functioning teams to ensure all information in BOMs is correct when passing off to production.
- Collaborate with the cross-functioning teams to ensure wash and fabric aesthetic is achieved.
- Collaborate with cross-functioning teams to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent.
- Maintain/Develop fit and quality standards to ensure size, construction and fit consistency within the brand and product categories.
- Escalate issues to superiors for input and direction.
- Maintain professional and timely email correspondence with domestic & oversea suppliers.
- Identify potential product, quality and costing issues and make appropriate recommendations
- Track and manage workflow and workload and ensure product areas are maintained with cross-functional team; gather information and update all reports necessary for meeting.
REQUIREMENTS
- Understanding in flat garment measuring, garment construction, and quality control/assurance.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in the apparel industry as a Technical Designer with some patternmaking experience a plus
- Strong understanding of the apparel design and development process from inception through production.
- Must be proficient with knowledge and skill in fit and pattern making, grading and construction manufacturing methods, sewing, fabric ways, fabric tension, fusing, trims, and technical drawing.
- Experience in grading and ability to understand grade rules on Women’s categories.
- Experience in leading live fittings and evaluating overall fit with an ability to make necessary corrections to achieve the desired fit.
- Knowledge and proven success in technical design for the junior market and product categories
- knitwear, woven sportswear, streetwear, and active wear. Experience with fast fashion a plus
- Knowledge of preparing and writing product specification sheets across company-wide products.
- Clear communication of Fit comments and Fit corrections to send to Factory on a regular basis.
- Proficient computer skills, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to identify apparel flaws quickly and effectively and/or possible production issues.
- Ability to work successfully with any personality type and adapt to urgent projects.
- Sense of urgency and ability to maintain performance quality under pressure
- Ability to prioritize work and follow instructions
- Team-oriented; ability to excel in a team-based structure.
- Strong communication skills (Verbal and Written) and organizational skills
- Self-starter, multi-task oriented and the ability to resolve issues in a timely fashion
