Job Description
We are looking for a hands-on Director of Corporate Accounting to lead our apparel client's accounting function and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and compliance. This role is critical in supporting our leadership with financial insights, driving operational efficiency, fostering seamless collaboration with various teams to optimize processes. The ideal candidate will bring deep accounting expertise, retail industry experience, and a passion for developing high-performing teams. Reporting to the SVP of Accounting, this role will own the company’s full-cycle accounting and maintain the integrity of their financial statements.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and manage corporate accounting, overseeing general ledger, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with US GAAP
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, including balance-sheet reconciliations and ad hoc analysis for executive leadership
- Implement, document and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies to support operational and financial integrity
- Lead the annual financial audit process, compile analysis/reports and tax return preparation or other projects
- Partner with cross functional teams (Operations, DC, Wholesale, etc.) to provide a smooth billing process, guarantee precision in customer invoicing and collections, and support key business initiatives
- Reconcile and investigate outstanding balances, proactively addressing and resolving any discrepancies. Analyze monthly budget vs actual performance and investigate variances
- Perform research for technical accounting purposes
- Responds to inquiries from the CFO and other members of the executive and leadership teams regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
- Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and assess their impact on the company
- Continuously improve on internal and external processes, data, and reports
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
- CPA required
- Experience working with or for public companies, with a strong understanding of SEC reporting requirements
- Experience in the consumer goods industry with a solid understanding of inventory and cost accounting in a multi-channel retail environment
- Strong systems skills: ERPs, Netsuite experience a plus, Excel
- Strong problem solving aptitude in identifying root causes, gathering and process relevant information, and making recommendations for solutions
- Ability to effectively analyze transactional level detail in an enterprise resource planning system and articulate the key findings to leadership
- Proven ability to manage teams, prioritize deliverables, and operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
