Director of Technical Design & Material Development

Job Description
- Leading the larger spectrum of fit consistency across the brand, and helping the team meet deadlines, work through challenges, and deliver excellent products.
- Responsible for guiding the Materials team through day-to-day fabric sourcing + development processes, while also targeting and meeting ambitious goals in sustainability and premium style + comfort - we are known for soft things, after all.
- Team management of 3 or more direct reports, including professional development, problem-solving and assistance with prioritization in a fast-paced department.
- Lead point of contact for the team ensuring alignment in how TD + materials operate and working strategically with other team leaders to ensure efficient and effective working cadences.
- Oversee our fabric development processes, working toward continuous improvement in environmental sustainability.
- Oversee our fit and grading processes and meetings, working toward consistency, efficiency and exemplary fit.
- Partner cross-functionally across Design, Product Development, and Merchandising for achievement of strategic goals.
- Set the highest product excellence standards. This means fit but equally important is the implementation of Design’s vision and guiding + upholding the product development calendar.
- Manage relationships with domestic + overseas vendors to ensure brand standards are met.
- Communicate, collaborate + present clearly with Sr. Leadership.
- Manage deliverables + things outside of the day to day scope of fit development.
- For example, communicating QC issues to vendors, working with our PLM contact if issues arise, and creating category fit consistency.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Technical design knowledge + experience in apparel is a requirement.
- 6-12 years working experience in product development, materials or technical design.
- At least 1-2 years management experience.
- Analytical, problem solving and project management abilities.
- Proven ability to build successful cross functional and mentoring/ management relationships.
- Desire to work in a very fast-paced environment and an ability to not become frustrated with last minute changes.
