Technical Designer/ Associate Technical Designer – Women's Apparel + Swim
Our client, a contemporary apparel brand based in Charleston, SC, is seeking a Technical Designer / Associate Technical Designer to support the development and production of high-quality women's apparel. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented technical designer who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure exceptional fit, construction, and product quality. Experience in swimwear is a plus but not required.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain seasonal technical packages, including measurement specifications, construction details, and bills of materials.
- Assist in developing construction methods and finishing details that align with design intent and brand standards.
- Review garments for fit, construction, and workmanship throughout the product development process.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, Production, and domestic and overseas vendors to ensure products meet fit, construction, and quality expectations.
- Participate in fit sessions, document detailed fit comments, and communicate revisions clearly to vendors.
- Track fit samples and maintain WIP reports throughout the development calendar.
- Update technical packages following fit sessions and sample reviews.
- Review patterns and provide technical feedback to support accurate garment execution.
- Ensure products comply with company quality standards and applicable U.S. safety and labeling requirements.
- Help maintain consistency in fit, construction, and quality across product categories.
- Support the maintenance of fit libraries, construction standards, and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- 4–8 years of Technical Design experience within women's apparel.
- Experience in swimwear, activewear, intimates, or adjacent apparel categories is preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, pattern interpretation, and apparel manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of grading, measurement specifications, and garment tolerances.
- Experience working with both domestic and overseas vendors.
- Ability to read patterns and understand how different fabrications impact garment fit and construction.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is required.
- Detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about delivering high-quality products.
